Introduction
This book began as a scrapbook over 20 years ago, in the search for something – even though I had no idea what that was. This book offers a guiding map to help you discover your own “something,” whatever that may be. It draws upon numerous sources of information and personal experiences, all compiled into a single, accessible resource that illustrates how they energetically integrate. I’m sharing this guidance in the way I wish had been available for me; through the toughest times, to the most beautiful. As with everything in life, take this with your own personal interpretation; use what feels right for you, and leave what does not.
This book also serves as a practical guide, designed to be worked through along your own journey. It offers the space and support to put the information into action. It’s easy to skip to the quick answers, assuming you can address the rest later, only to never get back to those other elements. I’ve certainly been guilty of that! That’s why this book aims to provide everything you need in one place.
I’ll begin by explaining the sections of The Guiding Star System, giving you a solid overview before diving into more depth. This is a journey of Self-discovery. The depth of your exploration is entirely up to you; it is a personal choice guided by your current position and needs.
The Guiding Star System (TGSS) uses five categories to illustrate its teachings: Fuel, Movement, Rest, Out, and In. These are common words that each hold deep meaning, far beyond their literal definitions. In each chapter, we will explore these concepts in both foundational and highly insightful ways, to increase your awareness and understanding of each area, and how they interact. These are then linked with our different energy systems, which I introduce in the energy chapter
1 – Fuel
The concept of “fuel” refers to everything that nourishes your body. Initially, this encompasses food and drink. Your diet significantly impacts your overall well-being, happiness, and physical health. The food you consume literally becomes the building blocks of your physical body, shaping who you are. We will explore how to optimise this to maximise energy levels.
Beyond food and drink, however, there are other ways to fuel your body and enhance energy. When I first embarked on this research, I would have scoffed at the idea; it seemed nonsensical. Yet, there are numerous, often overlooked, ways to replenish our energy, much like charging a battery. We are electrical beings; every cell within us contributes to our overall energetic frequency and charge. While our current understanding of the human body and universal energy systems is limited, historically, we’ve had a much deeper intuitive understanding of how to fuel our bodies and how to exist within the energetic landscape of life. Our bodies and Mother Nature share a life force, intricate and complex systems we can use to enhance our well-being. Many ancient civilisations and traditions possessed a far deeper understanding of these systems than we have today. Examples include breathing and breathwork, cold water therapy, forest bathing, sungazing, sound healing, and the use of positive energy and visualisation. Some things simply are; we may not always be able to fully explain them, but their effects are undeniable.
2 – Movement
Life is movement. Even when unconscious, our bodies are continually in motion. Our hearts beat, our cells regenerate, and our minds continue to process information. When we think of movement, we often focus only on physical movement, but this represents only a small facet of the whole. Physical movement—the amount and type of movement we engage in—is a
beautiful and powerful tool to improve your energy frequency. Movement includes exercise, but is not exclusive to the term. Being active instructs the cells and all associated systems of the body to operate in certain ways, influencing our energy levels throughout the day and even during sleep. Regular physical activity enhances the metabolism, even while resting. If you challenge your physical capabilities, your body works to repair and recover, leading to improved fitness and energy utilisation.
Beyond the physical, however, movement also encompasses the flow of energy within your being and throughout your life. This includes mental, emotional, and Spiritual, movement. Your progress along your life path is directly correlated with the momentum of this energy. We all experience times when we feel we have strayed from our path; at such times, there is often a clear sign or signal to help you rediscover your way. We’ll explore those signs in more depth later in the book.
Human progress is essential. We are all engaged in this process, learning our lessons and moving toward what is meant for us. The pace of this process is unique for each individual, sometimes comfortable, sometimes challenging. Recognising and embracing our forward momentum allows us to gain direction, focus, and motivation to achieve our goals.
Our physical location can also profoundly influence our energy levels. Have you ever travelled, moved to a new home, or even gone on holiday only to experience a dramatic shift in your energy? This effect is often subtle yet powerful. We’ll delve more deeply into this concept, particularly examining the feeling of being “trapped,” helping you gain new perspectives and clarity on challenging situations.
3 – Rest
The word “rest” is inherently linked with sleep—a necessary function for sustaining life. Sleep is vital for our physical and mental well-being, providing time for our bodies to restore and repair. The quality of our sleep profoundly affects our overall health and happiness. We
cycle through different sleep stages, and understanding how to optimise these cycles enhances the restorative process. Getting the recommended amount of sleep is beneficial, but it’s equally crucial to ensure the quality of that sleep. Poor quality sleep can dramatically impact our mood, behaviour, and functioning. The right amount of high-quality sleep can feel amazing!
While extensive research has been conducted on sleep, there remains no single definitive theory explaining its imperativeness, and why it has escaped evolution. We know it involves distinct states of consciousness; but the potential implications of this knowledge remain to be fully explored. This book will explore the connection between altered states of consciousness and Spirituality, along with the often-unexplained phenomena of amnesia and physical paralysis experienced during sleep.
“Rest” encompasses more than just sleep. It includes periods of relaxation and downtime— moments of physical and mental respite. This can be as simple as sitting on the sofa, lying on a beach, or simply taking a pause.
Even with physical and mental rest, feelings of tiredness and dissatisfaction may linger. In these instances, the concept of “Spiritual rest” emerges, emphasising the need to replenish one’s Spiritual energy. Individuals may discover that they require rest and sleep for their physical bodies and their minds but remain disconnected from their Spirits. It’s a personal decision whether or not to acknowledge and address this need. Upon reading this, many may recognise times when they actively attempted to block this need out.
4 – Out
In the context of The Guiding Star System, “out” refers to your outer world—the physical world, the concept of time, and everything associated with it. This includes all the tangible things you see: buildings, cars, trees, oceans, and your physical body—cells, tissues, muscles, and bones. It also encompasses your physical brain, your memory, and certain thoughts shaped by external conditioning and teachings. Information is physically stored within the body—in memory, in cells, and in DNA. We’ll explore this in greater depth later.
Your outer world is a mirror of your internal world, which leads us to the next section. Your habitual thoughts reflect your outward reality. On an energetic level, your thoughts determine your frequency, and this frequency directly influences and is reflected back in your physical reality. Scientific principles, such as quantum physics, epigenetics, and the placebo effect, demonstrate this connection.
The “out” aspect of our existence represents our uniquely human experiences in both our physical bodies and the physical world. This includes our personal lessons—essential aspects of learning and growth in this life. The “out” is the aspect of our lives that ends with death. It includes your personality, sun sign, emotions, persona, conditioning, and life experiences— all facets of your presence in the physical world.
5 – In
The “in” section of the Guiding Star System focuses on the non-physical aspects of our being—our internal, essential selves. This represents your inner Self, your Spirit, your true essence, your feelings, and your awareness. It is your inner observer, your capacity for introspection, and your deepest connection to yourSelf. This is where your intuition, your authentic Self, and your truest guidance reside. It is the essence of your heart and Soul.
Many people feel uncertain about their beliefs regarding life’s fundamental questions, and in today’s fast-paced world, these questions are often overlooked. Many religions offer varying perspectives on the nature of God or gods. However, the specifics of any single belief system
are less critical than the shared understanding that we are all connected by something greater—a higher energy, a profound power, or a fundamental sense of goodness. This unifying essence is Spirit—the purest and most divine form of energy, life, and love. It resides within each of us and every living thing, creating an innate connection to something beyond our physical selves. This is something we access inwardly. This is why this section is called “In,” as it represents the central connection between all other aspects of the system.
These are brief introductions to the areas and concepts that make up The Guiding Star System. What we go on to discover, is the invisible link between all of these sections, that is the key to walking the path to all that you know you can be…
